Receiving and the Law of Attraction

If you want something whether to meet the love
of your life, get a great job or increase your
financial stability you need to know how to
receive them because the world can only give
what you can receive. Yet most people have not
received an education about how to receive or
how even to think about it.
Lately, there is a lot of talk about the Law of
Attraction with the movie and book The Secret
by Rhonda Byrne
getting a lot of attention as well as the book
The Law of Attraction: The Basics of the
Teachings of Abraham
by Jerry and Esther Hicks.
In this short article I want to
connect a few dots about the link between the
Law of Attraction and the topic of Receptivity
and how being a skilled Receiver can help you
receive what ever it is that you have attracted.
To receive is to be open, aware and responsive
to how life speaks to you. The Law of Attraction
is about attracting. Yet, if you are not attentive to how
life speaks and relates to you, you may not be able to draw what
you want toward you because you have missed the
signals and information that would be helpful to you.
The Law of Attraction works for those who know
how to be attractive. So, ask yourself what
makes you attractive? But first consider the
following:

You Know How to Give
Do You Know How to Receive?

You’ve been working all day. Actually you’ve put
in some overtime because your co-worker had an
emergency (again) and now you are home looking
in the refrigerator wondering if you have enough
energy to cook something for dinner or if you
should just call the pizza delivery guy.
This wouldn’t be so bad if it were a once in a
blue moon thing, but the depressing truth is
this is an overly familiar situation.
“Why,” you wonder, “am I so available to help
people out, but when I need time off it seems
like everybody is AWOL. And also,” now you’re
warming up, “how come I am the go-to person
every time someone needs something?”
Does the above sound familiar? If not,
congratulate yourself because your giving and
receiving is in balance, meaning that sometimes
you are the Giver and other times the Receiver.
If this is you, your natural state is to feel
physically rested, mentally alert and engaged,
emotionally content and spiritually fulfilled.
If the above paragraph doesn’t represent your
life even a little bit, keep reading.

You Know How to
Give; Do You Know How to Receive?
The Power of Receiving and How it Will
Revolutionize Your Life
By Amanda Owen
Many of us have been taught the importance and
value of giving. But what about receiving? Is it
better to give than receive? Or, are they
equally important? To achieve a goal or to
manifest a dream, it makes sense that you need
to know how to receive it. Yet, the truth is
that many people are terrible receivers. They
are uncomfortable accepting a compliment, they
don’t let people pick up the restaurant check
and they never ask for help.
Yet, who could argue that the following people,
among many, would not benefit from relationships
and lives that include their own needs, desires
and dreams?
-
single parents trying to balance work and
care for their children with a social life
-
those looking after an elderly parent
-
people to whom everybody turns when they
need help
-
individuals who habitually rescue and enable
troubled people
-
nurses, counselors, social workers, and
others in the helping fields
Over-extended giving seems to be epidemic in a
culture such as ours that has a high value on a
pull-yourself-up-by-your-bootstraps approach to
life and little value for expressing the need
for help. Its opposite is as firmly entrenched
in the behavior of lazy, entitled users and
takers, such as spouses who don’t contribute
financially, children who resent being asked to
help with household chores and slacker coworkers
who disappear when there is work to be done.
While the Giver archetype is firmly entrenched
in our culture, its opposite the Receiver is
almost wholly unfamiliar. Has anyone ever
praised someone by saying, “So-and-so is a
wonderful Receiver!” Yet, the act of receiving
is the natural, healthy complement to giving.
